Advancing Surgical Anatomy Education Through Scientific Excellence
A trusted academic collaboration advancing high-precision cadaveric education for plastic surgeons.
About Us
The Athens Plastic Surgery Cadaver Courses is an advanced, hands-on educational program developed by the Hellenic Society of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (HESPRAS) in collaboration with the official Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Our Vision
To contribute to safer, evidence-based practice through academic excellence and continuous professional development.
Our Mission
To deliver high-precision cadaveric workshops focused on applied anatomy, surgical safety and evidence-based practice, supporting advanced training in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery.
Core Values
We are committed to providing rigorous, ethically conducted anatomical training that upholds the highest standards of surgical safety and academic credibility.
Scientific Affiliations
HESPRAS is a member of leading international organizations in Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, reflecting strong international scientific engagement and academic collaboration.

Educational Approach & Scientific Oversight
The Athens Plastic Cadaver Courses are built around a carefully structured curriculum that combines focused lectures, step-by-step anatomical demonstrations and supervised cadaveric practice. The program utilises fresh frozen cadaveric specimens, offering tissue properties that closely resemble living anatomy and allowing precise, realistic surgical simulation. Small working groups (two participants per specimen) allow each participant to perform key procedures themselves, under direct faculty guidance, rather than simply observe.
All sessions are designed and reviewed by a dedicated scientific committee of experienced plastic surgeons and anatomists. The program is continuously updated to reflect current international standards, evolving surgical techniques, and the latest evidence on complication prevention.
Beyond the lab, participants are encouraged to engage in discussion, case-based reflection and ongoing study. Course materials, recommended literature and international society resources support continued learning long after the hands-on training has been completed.
Welcome Messages
Elias Athanasopoulos, MD, FEBOPRAS President of HESPRAS
Continuous education is a fundamental pillar of modern Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
The Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (HESPRAS) actively supports educational initiatives that promote scientific integrity, anatomical precision, and surgical safety. The Athens Plastic Surgery Cadaver Courses fully reflect this philosophy, offering high-level cadaveric training under strict academic and scientific supervision.
The collaboration with the Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, ensures academic credibility and alignment with international educational standards.
As President of HESPRAS, I consider such initiatives essential and believe this program will serve as a reference point for advanced surgical education, both in Greece and internationally.
Theodore Troupis, MD, MSc, PhD Professor of Anatomy – Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
Anatomy forms the foundation of every safe and effective surgical procedure.
The Athens Plastic Surgery Cadaver Courses take advantage of the unique academic environment of the Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, offering participants the opportunity to study human anatomy in depth through structured, hands-on, and scientifically guided training.
The collaboration between the academic community and HESPRAS creates the conditions for a program of high educational standards, where theoretical knowledge is directly connected to surgical application.
I welcome this initiative and hope that it will contribute meaningfully to the advancement of surgical education and clinical practice.
Spyridon Vourtsis, MD, MSc, MPH, PhD, FEBOPRAS
Scientific and Organizational Coordinator of Cadaver Seminars
Education in Plastic Surgery must be grounded in solid anatomical knowledge, scientific evidence, and hands-on clinical experience.
The Athens Plastic Surgery Cadaver Courses were created with the aim of offering plastic surgeons a rigorous and academically structured training environment, where anatomy and surgical practice meet with precision and safety.
Through the collaboration between the Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (HESPRAS) and the Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, this initiative seeks to strengthen continuous medical education and support high standards in surgical practice.
I am pleased to be part of this educational effort and to welcome participants to a program that places scientific accuracy and patient safety at its core.
